Terry DugglebyThe College Farm is in the heart of prime countryside
providing an environment in which to learn wide ranging
practical skills and to complement your theoretical
knowledge.

The great outdoors is our most popular classroom,
comprising a dairy unit, a beef, sheep, outdoor pig and an
extensive arable unit. The total farmed area amounts to
685 hectares plus a further 15 hectares of woodland, all
of which is used to provide a platform for practical skill
development.

Ten years ago the British Farming Industry employed
large numbers of workers. Today fewer but still
significant numbers are needed in farming, all of
whom must possess greater skills and knowledge of
husbandry and mechanisation techniques, alongside an
in-depth understanding of plant life, animal production,
conservation and the natural environment. Today’s
agricultural and countryside workers need to be multiskilled
and equipped with recognisable qualifications.
Lackham is the place to achieve these skills and
qualifications.

We are pleased to report that the Office for Standards
in Education (Ofsted) in their May 2007 'Good Practice
Survey' found many areas of Land Based Industries work
at Lackham to be good. They praised our effective use of
the Farm and Estate for both practical and theory lessons.
This, alongside our continued support and investment in
additional land, range of enterprises, student facilities and
resources, ensures that the learning experience at Lackham
is one of the best in the country.

Employers have learnt from previous good experience that
Lackham’s agricultural and countryside qualifying students
have benefited from sound, realistic, practical tuition,
much of which has been gained on the College Farm
and Estate and are keen to secure their services. You will
find our well-qualified and professionally competent staff
friendly and keen to transfer up-to-date knowledge and
highly relevant practical skills that will relate to your future
employment.
