The health and welfare of animals is central to Lackham Farm's work as sickness and disease can be devastating to a livestock population and, in turn, to farm productivity. Some of the major types of health problems that affect farm animals are parasites (eg. liver fluke, roundworm, etc.), viral and bacterial infections (eg. foot and mouth, TB, etc.), and harmful insects (eg. blowfly, warble fly, etc.). Animals also suffer health problems when their system doesn't function, for example milk fever occurs when a cow's blood is low in calcium.
The animal health and welfare strategy is aimed at managing the impact of animal diseases and improving the welfare of animals kept by Lackham, whilst protecting the economic and social well being of people and the environment.
