Blood Testing

Blood testing will be carried out as required for the various schemes available.

Routine Examinations (ewes and rams)

All ewes are examined for condition score on at least 5 occasions annually as described previously.

In addition, udders and teeth must be checked at lambing or weaning and again pre-tupping.

Culling of individual affected sheep is carried out for loss of teeth, mastitis, bad feet or continued poor body condition.

If greater than 5% are affected with any one condition and prematurely culled, veterinary attention must be sought. Measures will be taken to ensure that the replacement rate for flock is <20% per year if possible. Nevertheless, it is a policy to ensure that animals that don't fit into the system or that have specific problems will be culled as required.
