Isolation facilities must be available. The facilities need not be dedicated to the function of isolation, but if used for other purposes, must be available for use within three hours of any need.
The specified facility must comply with the scheme requirements, and if not dedicated to the purpose, the specification must include a protocol of preparation to ensure availability and method of use. Such a protocol must include details of cleaning procedures, waste disposal (including soiled bedding) and disinfection, before, during and after use.
The isolation facilities must be specified and have the following facilities and specifications:
Be a separate building or part of a building with a separated air space from the main livestock accomodation, and not allow any direct contact with any other animal.
Have adequate access for veterinary attention.
Have restraining facilities to allow handling.
Have artificial lighting.
Have adequate space for the size of animal.
Have internal walls to a height of at least two metres finished with a surface which can be cleaned and disinfected, or be enclosed by washable gates or partitions which are placed at least three metres from the nearest permeable surface.
Lackham isolation facilities:
Buildings are available at Notton Farm in the top yard for quarantine of brought in animals. Those requiring milking will be housed at Home Farm away from the main herd.
Some of the monopitch buildings at Home Farm require rendering to allow them to be used as isolation boxes as required.
