A Mastitis Management Action Plan for mastitis control should be created for the health plan and should be understood and observed. The action plan may be constructed and modified according to the particular farm circumstances and the prevalence of mastitis as shown by the health records. Regular review is part of the plan.

The use of all Prescription Only Medicines must be under the direction and supervision of the veterinary surgeon. The health plan specifies therapy for the treatment of clinical mastitis, and any routine dry cow intramammary preparation that is required. These will be periodically reviewed in line with other medicines. The treatment instructions such as shown below will be displayed in the vicinity of the milking parlour and all milking personnel must be aware of their presence.

Special treatments other than those specified in the health plan must only be under the direction and supervision of the veterinary surgeon.
