The following management prescriptions apply to all Agreement land identified
in Schedules 2.2.1 to 2.2.5 of this Agreement unless specifically agreed
otherwise in this or later schedules.
Inorganic or organic (e.g. farmyard manure) fertiliser, lime, slurry, sewage sludge or slag must not be applied.
Pesticides must not be applied except for the control of spear thistle, creeping or field thistle, curled dock, broad-leaved dock, common ragwort or, with prior DEFRA agreement, nettles. Application must be by weed wiper or spot treatment. All pesticides must be applied in accordance with the Control of Pesticide Regulations 1986 and follow the Code of Good Practice for the safe use of pesticides on farms and holdings.
There must be no ploughing or other cultivation, reseeding, rolling or chain harrowing.
There must be no new drainage or modification to existing drainage systems. This includes subsoiling and mole ploughing.
Where Livestock Units (LU) per hectare are referred to in the following management prescriptions, the units below should be used to calculate stocking rates:
| Dairy cow | 1.0 LU | |
| Beef cow (excl. calf) | 1.0 LU | |
| Cattle | ||
| over 2 years old | 1.0 LU | |
| 6 months-2 years old | 0.6 LU | |
| Ewe and lamb | 0. 15 LU | |
| Hill ewe and lamb | 0.10 LU | |
| Ram and tegs over 6 months | 0.15 LU |
There must be no use of metal detectors or ground disturbance on sites of archaeological interest without prior written consent from DEFRA.
Pigs, poultry, horses, ponies, and donkeys must not be allowed to graze
or be kept on
Agreement land.
In the first Agreement year produce a management plan for the orchard in IACS field number 73 3 8. A specification for the plan is attached. The plan must be sent to DEFRA by 31 March 2003 for approval and agreed in writing before work commences.
Field Boundaries marked in red at Schedule 1 (the Agreement map) must be retained. Any management of them must be agreed in writing with DEFRA. Leave an uncultivated 2 metre grass strip next to the boundaries to buffer them from farming operations. The strip must be kept free of fertilisers and pesticides.
Parkland, orchard fruit, mature field and hedgerow trees must be retained and protected from damage. There must be no supplementary feeding of stock, storage of materials or machinery, cultivations or weed control on the area within three metres of the base of each tree. Bonfires must be sited to avoid any damage to the crowns of trees. Tree surgery must be limited to that required for the safety of people and livestock. Fallen trees or limbs should be left undisturbed or cut and stacked in a shady location to help conserve dead-wood invertebrates and fungi.
