Manage by grazing and by hay cutting. In years when grazing follow the grazing clauses below. And in years when mowing follow the mowing clause below.

GRAZING CLAUSES:

Graze cattle and/or sheep for a period of at least 10 weeks between 1 April and 30. Grazing must be regulated to ensure that grass growth is removed without poaching or over/under-grazing to achieve an average sward height of 50-100 mm at the end of the growing season with areas of closely grazed turf interspersed with taller tussocks. In particular avoid poaching by managing stock grazing carefully when ground conditions are wet.

There must be no supplementary feeding of any description, including creep feeding

MOWING CLAUSES:

Cut and remove hay each year of hay management. At least one year in three cutting must not take place before 15 July to permit flowers and grasses in the sward to seed

Leave a minimum of 1 metre uncut alongside the field edge to act as a refuge for wildlife. Manage this strip by aftermath grazing or by cutting one year in three to control woody growth.

Cut material must be turned at least once to help seed shedding and should be left in the field for a minimum of 36 hours before removal.

Graze aftermaths on fields cut for hay with cattle and/or sheep. Remove livestock by 30 October each year leaving a sward height of 50 - 100 mm. There must be no poaching or overgrazing. If aftermath grazing is not possible cut and remove to achieve a sward height of 50 mm by 30 November.

GENERAL LAND MANAGEMENT

Rolling /light chain harrowing can only be carried out between 1 September and the end of February to avoid disturbance to breeding birds.

Trees should be protected from damage through bark stripping by grazing animals. Do not fasten any protection to the trees themselves. If orchard tree planting is to be carried out in the field/s refer to Schedule 5 for work specifications.
