BTEC National Diploma in Agriculture

Unlike many of my fellow students, I’m not from a farming background but I have learnt a great deal at Lackham which I am certain will stand me in good stead when studying for my degree in Agriculture. I feel lucky to have studied in such wonderful surroundings and taken part in many of the extra curricular activities including horse riding, climbing and trampolining - it’s been great fun!

My dad is a dairy farmer, so I’ve always been into machinery. I heard about Lackham’s reputation, came to look around and was in no doubt that this was the place for me. There is a really good atmosphere among staff and students - we are more like a group of friends having a laugh. I am confident to go back to work now taking my new skills and knowledge with me.

At school I was just a number, at College I am an individual free to express my own opinion. I have been given loads of support - my tutors have really put themselves out to help me. There is so much going on I’m never bored, the facilities are brilliant and there are so many jobs I can go into at the end of it all - it’s really exciting.

GNVQ Intermediate in Land and Environment

A careers adviser suggested this course to me - and I’m glad they did. My favourite part of the course is working outdoors in the woodland planting trees and raising chicks and ducks. We are a nice, small group that learn a lot from our lecturers who are very enthusiastic. Next year, I’m staying here to study Countryside Management and plan to do conservation work, maybe as an RSPB warden in the future.

HND in Agricultural Engineering

I took a five-year gap from education before deciding to do a HND to improve my options for the future. The staff are more like friends than tutors and if you need help or support they are always there for you. Living at Lackham is brilliant with a friendly atmosphere and excellent social life. - I have done so well here that I have now enrolled on a degree course!
